- About cholesterol: "
... It builds all the cell membranes in our bodies, makes hormones,
regulates itself, and keeps us alive. It constitutes 50 per
cent of the fragile membranes that sheath all cells'. "

- Framingham study (A
PDF) --
This is the Grandaddy of all the cholesterol studies -- almost all the
work since then assumes this study was
reliable and definitive. If you read it carefully, you probably will
agree that it is not a fair report. Read #5 and #6
below.
- Framingham analysis: Suggests
there are basic flaws in the study.
- Framingham
after 10 years -- This article basically says the Framingham study
failed to uncover risk-factors for heart disease.
- Lower
cholesterol naturally: Quick
tips on how to do it. -- "What’s
one of the most important rules in medicine today? It’s 'Never
take a drug if a natural and safer remedy provides the same relief' ".
- Cholesterol is good for your brain -- from the Framingham study
- Statin
drugs shown to be largely ineffective for the majority of people who
take them, but why does this
fact seem to have passed researchers by? From Dr. Briffa
- Ask for evidence if your doctor prescribes medicine
to reduce cholesterol.
- You can see the plaque in
your carotid arteries for $250.
- Another flawed cholesterol
study by people who should
know better.
- Stroke study jumps to conclusions.
- Kent State study shows
cholesterol may help older adults build muscle.
- Cholesterol
study --
5 page PDF tells about 112 articles that lead the author to the conclusions expressed in all of the links from this page.
- Cholesterol --
A free collection of articles about cholesterol published in The New York
Times. These articles are typical of the standard articles that appear in almost all public information on cholesterol. Please note that the articles are filled with generalities and opinions. They are not backed up with any real evidence the reader can study. They essentialy are at odds with the evidence in all the other articles I have cited in the above links.
For instance, at << http://health.nytimes.com/ref/health/healthguide/esn-cholesterol-expert.html >> Dr. Antonio Gotto, the dean of Weill Cornell Medical College, who has been a lipid researcher for more than 40 years, responds to a number of questions. He appears to say that lowering cholesterol is very important. See my response to Dr. Gotto's Q and A session. Also see this article wherein Dr. DeBakey and Dr. Gotto are shown to disagree.
- Cholesterol -- The latest on the subject from the NY Times (11-27-07)
- Cholesterol (ac) -- This in-depth treatment of "cholesterol" is typical. It simply goes along with the accepted wisdom and dogma. It challenges nothing.
- Cholesterol makes you smarter -- a .PDF file
- DeBakey questions cholesterol role / By SANDRA BLAKESLEE, SPECIAL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES
- It may be dangerous to take statins -- "Cholesterol is essential for brain development and neuronal functions. However,
at present little is known about cholesterol homeostasis in the central nervous
system with is separated by the rest of the body by the blood-brain barrier.“ See http://www.biomed.helsinki.fi/research/cholesterol/ Although this report did not directly say statins can
interefere with the proper working of the brain, it suggests to me, M. Carbone, that it may be dangerous to take statins, which can interfere with
cholesterol in the brain.
- Trying to reduce heart attacks by reducing
cholesterol because high cholesterol is seen in heart attack victims is
like trying to reduce infections by
reducing white blood cells because
large numbers of white blood cells
are
always
seen at
the site of infections. -- M. Carbone
- 7/7/08 -- Cholesterol screening for kids as young as two-years-old is urged.
- 7/8/08 -- 8-Year-Olds on Statins? A New Plan Quickly Bites Back / NY Times / New recommendations for warding off heart disease in some children have stirred a furious debate among pediatricians.
The next six entries tell about doctors who warn against fighting cholesterol
- Duane Graveline a medical doctor and former astronaut has written extensively
about the dangers of statin drugs and the reduction of cholesterol. See << http://www.spacedoc.net/>>
- U. Ravnskov, a medical doctor and researcher has written about
the dangers of reducing cholesterol. He thinks it is a valuable material
that has nothing to do with heart problems. http://www.ravnskov.nu/cholesterol.htm
- Statin
drugs shown to be largely ineffective for the majority of people who
take them, but why does this
fact seem to have passed researchers by? From Dr. Briffa
- Michael DeBakey, the famous surgeon, has significant
doubts about the general conclusion that cholesterol causes heart problems
(22) . He has stated, that 30 years
of observation of more than 15,000 patients had led him to conclude that
cholesterol was not
the central cause of atherosclerosis, the artery-clogging condition that kills
hundreds of thousands of Americans each year.
- "The Lancet"
study shows there
is no evidence that
statins should
be prescribed as a preventative measure to stop heart disease.
